Last week I visited south Devon, where I went to 3 different gardens. Coleton Fishacre I have visited before, was my favourite, I love the house and its’ setting in the valley above the sea. The Hot border was looking especially lovely, so bright with lots of contrast between the orange, yellow, purple and green flowers and foliage. The house itself is also really interesting, having been been built 100 years ago in the valley that the D’Oyly Carte family spotted whilst sailing past. Lady DC had a room especially for flower arranging, the vase collection is shown below. Another RHS partner garden, Mothecombe Gardens had an amazing array of flowers especially for bees, and the Lavender beds were all at their peak, all labelled with the variety. Saltram was the setting for the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility, a lovely old Oak tree had a tree house in it during the film, it’s not there now but the tree was amazing. Some lovely walks and countryside but not so much of a horticultury garden.
